Nothing to wire up. You describe the business in plain language, Ifa designs and builds it, and you check the plan before any of it exists.

Comparison

Best Auto Repair Shop Software for Small Shops (2026)

The best auto repair shop software for an independent shop with one to six bays, compared on booking, customer records, data import, pricing and daily fit.

By the Ifa team

This comparison is for the owner of an independent repair shop with one to six bays who writes estimates and turns wrenches in the same afternoon. You need shop management software that keeps every vehicle, customer, repair order and photo in one place, lets a service writer book the next visit without phone tag, and does not eat the margin on a brake job. We looked at seven tools that come up when people search for the best auto repair shop software: Shopmonkey, Tekmetric, AutoLeap, Mitchell 1 Manager SE, ARI, Identifix Shop Manager and our own product, Ifa. Everything below comes from each vendor’s own site as of September 2026. Prices change, so treat the numbers as published starting points rather than quotes.

How we compared

We scored each tool against five questions a working shop asks in the first month:

  • Booking. Can the front desk see the calendar, book a return visit and move a job when a part arrives late? Is there a customer-facing booking page?
  • Client records. Does the customer file hold vehicle history, photos, invoices and notes together, and can you find a car by plate or VIN in seconds?
  • Data import and export. Can you bring in customers and vehicles from a spreadsheet or another program, and can you get your data back out in a normal file if you leave?
  • Pricing model. Per shop, per user or per location, and whether a free plan or trial exists. We only print a number when we read it on the vendor’s pricing page today.
  • Fit for an owner-led team. How much setup and ongoing admin the tool expects from a shop where the owner is also the lead technician.

The order below is not a ranking; our own product sits last.

Shopmonkey

Best for: a shop that wants estimates, digital inspections, texting and card payments in one modern interface and is willing to pay for it.

Shopmonkey is cloud-based auto repair shop management software with a clean workflow board. Estimates and invoices are unlimited on every plan. The Basic tier includes two-way text and email, integrated payments and digital vehicle inspections limited to two templates. Higher tiers unlock unlimited inspection templates, purchase orders, time clocks, inventory management and a customizable workflow.

Where it falls short for a one-to-six-bay shop is cost creep. Each plan bundles a fixed number of users (three on Basic, four on Clever, five on Genius), and each extra user is listed at 20 dollars per month. Inventory and purchase orders, which many shops consider basic, only arrive on the middle tier.

Pricing model, as of September 2026: per shop per month, monthly or annual billing. Published starting price is 215 dollars per month on annual billing (239 monthly) for Basic, then 359 and 449 on annual billing for the higher tiers, plus a custom multi-shop plan. No free plan or trial is listed. See shopmonkey.io/pricing.

Tekmetric

Best for: a growth-minded shop that cares about reporting and technician efficiency.

Tekmetric is cloud shop management software priced per shop rather than per user or per repair order. The Start tier already includes inventory and vendor management, digital vehicle inspections, “Smart Jobs” for repeatable job packages, digital authorizations and invoicing. Scale, marked as the most popular plan on their site, adds two-way texting, a real-time dashboard, a technician board and employee analytics.

The catch is where the features land. Two-way texting, something a front desk uses forty times a day, sits on the third tier. Integrated payments appear under Enterprise on the pricing page. Add-ons for multi-shop, tires and marketing stack on top. Tekmetric offers no free trial, only guided demos and a self-guided tour.

Pricing model, as of September 2026: per shop, month-to-month or annual, no long-term contract. Published starting price is 179 dollars per month on annual billing (199 monthly) for Start, 309 for Grow and 409 for Scale on annual billing, with custom Enterprise pricing. See tekmetric.com/pricing.

AutoLeap

Best for: a shop that wants a guided setup and does not mind that the vendor builds the initial configuration.

AutoLeap is another cloud auto repair CRM and shop management platform. Essentials includes the work board, unlimited repair orders, a CARFAX integration and standard digital inspections. Pro adds two-way texting, inventory, a technician app, employee performance reports and labor guides.

AutoLeap states plainly that it does not offer a free trial, because they custom-build the system with your shop information before you start. As with Tekmetric, texting and inventory live on the second tier, so the entry price buys less than the feature list suggests.

Pricing model, as of September 2026: per shop, monthly or annual billing. Published starting price is 179 dollars per month on annual billing (199 monthly) for Essentials, 309 for Pro and 409 for Elite on annual billing, with custom Enterprise pricing. See autoleap.com/pricing.

Mitchell 1 Manager SE

Best for: a shop that already lives in ProDemand and wants estimating, parts catalogs and repair information wired straight into the invoice.

Mitchell 1 describes Manager SE as shop management software with a OneFlow Estimator that pulls labor times and procedures from ProDemand, more than 180 reports, digital parts catalog access, appointment and task scheduling, and optional add-ons for contactless payments, digital vehicle inspections and text messaging.

The weaknesses are the flip side of its age. Mitchell 1 sells Manager SE through local independent sales consultants; there is no published price, no self-serve signup and no online trial. Their product pages as of September 2026 do not describe it as a cloud product, so plan on installed software in the shop rather than something you open on a phone from home.

Pricing model, as of September 2026: quote-based through a sales consultant; no prices published on mitchell1.com. See mitchell1.com/manager-se.

ARI

Best for: a mobile mechanic or a one-to-two-bay shop that needs invoicing, inspections, scheduling and reminders for the price of a lunch.

ARI (Auto Repair Invoicing) runs on the web, on iOS and Android and on Windows desktop. The feature list is broad for the money: clients and vehicles, inspections, estimates and invoices, scheduling, payments, inventory, service reminders, labor guides and a client portal. Paid plans allow unlimited users and devices on one shop account. A free tier lets you create up to five invoices, estimates, inspections, clients and vehicles before subscribing, so you can try the real product with real cars.

The trade-off is depth. Reporting is thinner than Tekmetric or Shopmonkey, the interface leans toward the mobile app rather than a front-desk workstation, and a shop running four bays with two writers may feel it stretch.

Pricing model, as of September 2026: per shop, no contract, cancel any time. Published starting price is 39.99 dollars per month for ARI Pro (33.33 per month billed yearly) and 59.99 for ARI Pro Plus (49.99 per month billed yearly), with a limited free tier. See ari.app/auto-repair-software-price.

Identifix Shop Manager

Best for: a shop that uses Identifix Direct-Hit for diagnostics and wants the management side from the same company.

Identifix’s shop management product, historically sold as Identifix Shop Manager, is presented on identifix.com as of September 2026 under the ShopCentral name: a cloud-based system for single and multi-shop operators that covers daily repair order processing, customer communication, inventory, purchasing, labor times and billing.

The shortcomings for our reader are visibility and independence. Identifix publishes no plan prices on its shop management pages; the path to a number is a guided tour form or an external store link. The rebranding also means third-party write-ups of “Shop Manager” may describe an earlier product, so confirm what you are being quoted.

Pricing model, as of September 2026: subscription sold through a guided tour or the Identifix store; no prices published on the product pages. See identifix.com/shopcentral.

Ifa

Disclosure: Ifa makes one of the tools compared here.

Best for: a shop that is tired of a spreadsheet and a shoebox of paper, wants customer, vehicle and job records shaped to how it actually works, and is fine keeping invoicing and parts lookup in another tool for now.

Ifa is a business workspace rather than a purpose-built shop management system. You describe your shop in plain words (how many bays, what a job looks like from drop-off to pickup, what you track per vehicle), and Ifa proposes the records, fields, views and workflow, which you check before anything exists. In practice that means a customer record linked to vehicles, vehicles linked to jobs, lifecycle states such as “waiting on parts” or “ready for pickup”, and saved views for the day’s bays. Bookings are created, rescheduled and completed by your team against working hours per technician and booking policies you set. Photos of the damaged part, the signed authorization and supplier invoices attach to the job as customer files. Our page on auto repair shop software walks through a working day.

Where Ifa is genuinely behind the shop suites here: invoicing, payments, deposits and tips are planned rather than shipped, and there are no labor guides, no parts catalogs, no diagnostics, no VIN decoder and no e-signature. There is no Google or Outlook calendar sync. Booking itself is flexible: bays and technicians are bookable records with working hours, a policy per job type decides who can be booked, and every booking is checked for conflicts before it is written. Customers can book through a booking page Ifa creates or in chat on a connected channel, and a request can still arrive through a public form for the front desk to confirm. Confirmations and reminders are workflows you define, sent through the shared inbox on a schedule you set. If you need a repair order that prices labor from a guide and prints an invoice today, keep an invoicing tool beside it. Ifa is also pre-launch: you preview the workspace and then pay, there is no free tier, and today there is a waitlist.

Where it is ahead: import. Ifa reads CSV, TSV, JSON, JSONL, XLSX, XLS and inert XLSM files through a preview, flags duplicates, bad dates and empty values, and waits for your approval before a single row lands. The import your data page shows the checks. The shared inbox brings email, SMS, WhatsApp Business and other channels into one thread per customer once a provider is connected.

Pricing model, as of September 2026: preview the workspace, then pay; no free tier; waitlist. No published price.

How to choose

Start from the job you do fifty times a week, not from the longest feature list.

  • If invoicing and payments must live inside the tool today, pick among Shopmonkey, Tekmetric, AutoLeap and ARI. Read where texting and inventory sit on the tier ladder before comparing headline prices; on two of these the entry tier has no two-way texting.
  • If your estimates come from OEM procedures every day, Mitchell 1 Manager SE or Identifix ShopCentral will save writer time because the repair data is already in the estimate. Accept that you will negotiate a price through a rep or a form.
  • If you have one or two bays and need to spend almost nothing, ARI’s free tier is the only way on this list to test with your own cars before paying.
  • If your pain is the records and not the invoice, because customers, vehicles, photos and jobs are scattered across a phone, a spreadsheet and a filing cabinet, a workspace like Ifa fits, provided you keep your invoicing tool for now. Reminders are a workflow you define rather than a switch, so set that up in the first week.
  • Whatever you pick, test the exit. Ask each vendor, in writing, what file you get when you leave. A shop that cannot get its customer and vehicle history out in CSV or XLSX is renting its own records.

Questions people ask

What is the cheapest auto repair shop software worth using?

As of September 2026, ARI has the lowest published starting price on this list at 39.99 dollars per month, with a limited free tier. Shopmonkey, Tekmetric and AutoLeap start between 179 and 215 dollars per month on annual billing. Cheapest and best are different questions; the answer depends on whether you need texting, inventory and payments on day one.

Do I need a labor guide inside my shop management software?

If your writers price jobs from book time, yes, and that points to Tekmetric or AutoLeap (from their second tiers), Mitchell 1 or Identifix. If you price from experience and a flat-rate sheet, a labor guide is a cost you may not use, and ARI or a workspace like Ifa may be enough for the records side.

Can I move my customers and vehicles from my old system?

Most vendors here migrate your data as part of onboarding; the useful question is what they accept and what they hand back. Ask for a sample import of your real spreadsheet before you pay. Ifa imports spreadsheet and JSON files through a preview with duplicate and date checks; the import your data page shows that flow.

Is mechanic shop software different from auto repair CRM software?

The terms overlap. “Shop management software” usually means repair orders, estimates, invoices and inventory. “Auto repair CRM” leans toward the customer side: records, history, reminders and messaging. Shopmonkey, Tekmetric, AutoLeap and ARI cover both. Ifa covers records, booking and messaging but not invoicing.
